In Jharkhand, India, women in the indigenous Pahariya community carry a heavy burden on their shoulders. As farmers, they face exploitation from profiteering middlemen, the threat of climate change and a lack of infrastructure.
With men migrating to cities for work, women are often left solely responsible for backbreaking agricultural labour, whilst caring for children and extended family.
But this Christmas, your generosity could be transformative for these women - will you help change their lives now and for years to come?
What's changing?
Farmers in the Pahariya community have joined together to secure their families' futures. They've established a Community Producer Company, giving them the bargaining power to secure higher prices for their crops. This changes everything - more income means more farmers can pay for medical attention, and education for their children.
That's where your support comes in
With your help, the Community Producer Company (CPC) can expand, providing vital support to farmers by:
1. Training members in enterprise management, increasing profits by over 40% - so every farmer will benefit.
2. Teaching farmers how to grow traditional, climate-resilient crops such as millet.
3. Establishing a farmer field school, so farmers can share what they've learnt peer-to-peer.
