Tell fashion brands: homeworkers deserve rights

Working from home shouldn’t mean you forfeit your basic rights. But right now, for millions of workers in the fashion sector, this is the reality.

Factories churn out millions of garments a year but a significant part of clothing production is subcontracted to informal workers – often women with caring responsibilities who work from their homes.

They are fashion’s invisible workforce – and many brands refuse to acknowledge they even exist.

Because of this, they are denied their basic working rights, like pensions, maternity and sick pay, or predictable hours.

Recognition is the first step to improving their working conditions.

We’re calling on Boohoo, John Lewis, Sports Direct, Clarks, M&S, Sainsbury's, ASDA and Primark to stand up for the invisible workers in their supply chain – and acknowledge that homebased work not only happens, but can be a force for good.
