In March, due to global shortages of fertiliser caused by the war in Iran, many farmers in the Global South face poor harvests. It can become a devastating cycle: a poor harvest means less income; less income means fewer seeds, less compost and less fertiliser for the next season; leading to another poor harvest.
But this cycle can be broken. With the right financial and technical support to move away from reliance on chemical fertilisers, communities could farm regeneratively, which will ultimately benefit the environment and increase stability in the face of global crisis.
